The gods are dying and no one knows why…

Al'tesh is a hostile world – full of arid wastelands, scouring sands, and torrential storms – only with the blessings of the gods have its inhabitants been able to survive and prosper.

But those very gods are perishing, victims of a mysterious plague that seems to target only the divine.

Now only the strongest among them remain - Il'oria and her mages of law, The corrupted dragon Atraxis who bargained with a cold power from beyond the stars, Saheel the Pale who brings life-giving floods to the desert rivers – and even they might not be safe.

 

Races of Al'tesh

 

Humans are a wide and varied people.  The main factions include:

The kingdom of Ahrun, which functions as a trade hub for much of the west.  Renown for its night markets and bazaars, they rely on the moon goddess Saheel for annual flooding of the river, which is essential for agriculture in such an arid region.  Ahrun is one of the most diverse cities in Al'tesh - trade takes place in a myriad of languages and currencies each night, and other races are tolerated, if not always accepted.

The city state of Il'oria lies across the ocean, and is under the aegis of (placeholder), a living incarnation of the law.  Il'oria is a strictly ordered society, with innumerable laws and codes designed to promote peace and equality.  Law mages act as barristers in their many courts of law, and practice as form of true name magic that specializes in binding and restricting. 

The The Volsung are a collection of barbarian tribes to the north of Il'oria that formerly worshiped Atraxis, the Dragon god of Strength and the Hunt.  A brutal and martial race, they prize strength above all else.  They frequently raid other settlements in long boats that they pilot up and down the coast.  However when Atraxis was infected with the blight, she made a pact with cold power from beyond the stars in order to ensure her survival.  Now half mad, Atraxis seeks to spread this corruption and mutatation to those around her.  Save for only a few mad cultist, the human tribes of the north have renounced their worship of her. 

Elves are a nomadic tribe that live in the desert to the south of the human nation of Ahrun.  Their homeland was once covered in rich forests, until they went  to war with the Djinn.  Ultimately victorious, but at a terrible cost, their land is now a dry and barren desert.  They practice a godless form of magic.

Orcs live to the north of the human nation of Ahrun.  They practice a form of nature worship, and have strong shamanistic ties to the land.  They worship a nature diety named Padorum, an aspect of the forest. Recently, conflicts between humans and orcs have escalated due to territorial disputes.

Dwarves live on chain of islands that lie in the (placeholder ocean) between the eastern and western continents.  They are competent sailors, and crew merchant fleets that handle much of the trade between the two continents.  They are also known for their mountain monasteries and the warrior monks they produce. They worship the twin gods of Sea and Storm.
